Work Title: Flutter
Creator: Maomao

Q: Hi Maomao! Since Winter24, this is already your fourth time standing out in the submission contest. Compared to your previous three works, what are the differences in inspiration and creative approach for this piece?

A: There have actually been quite a big change. When I created my first winter-themed piece, I didn’t really think about giving the work any deeper meaning. But as I continued creating works inspired by summer, autumn, and spring, I gradually started to develop the idea of expressing emotions through my visuals, hoping my work could bring happiness to others.

Q: Since this piece continues your seasonal and small-animal theme, did you encounter any creative bottlenecks during the process?

A: Yes, I did hit a creative bottleneck. Before starting, I often got stuck by the formulaic compositions of my past works—should it be a top-down view, a low-angle view, or eye-level? A small pond, a tree hollow, or the sky?

In the end, overthinking really isn’t as good as sudden inspiration. I saw a photo of a marsh tit on social media and instantly fell in love—it was so adorable! So I quickly decided to draw the marsh tit (so round, like a little dumpling!) along with cherry blossoms.

Q: Seasonal works have always been your strong suit. Do you plan to try other themes in future submissions?

A: I’ve already completed four seasonal pieces, so I’m thinking about trying other themes next! I’m still in the process of honing my skills. (Though anime-themed competitions are basically god-tier battles…)

Q: Having your works loved four times in a row, what would you like to say to everyone? Any tips to share?

A: First of all, I bow deeply in gratitude for everyone’s support (my knees are already worn out). Being recognized like this has brought me a lot of positive emotional energy. Just thinking that the mousepads I designed are being used makes me really happy~

As for tips: while drawing, I usually imagine what it would feel like to actually use the mousepad I’m designing. It’s a very stream-of-consciousness approach, haha.

Q: Any final words for everyone? And how can fans find you?

A:I hope everyone can share their favorite themes or inspiring ideas with me as well. I will continue to do my best in future competitions and create works that live up to your expectations!

Work Title: Baize
Creator: Lin

Q: First, could you introduce yourself?

A: Hello everyone, I’m Lin, a digital illustrator. I mainly focus on character design, anatomy, and lighting atmosphere, and I enjoy capturing moments filled with storytelling through my artwork.

Q: When did you start creating? Do you have any memorable experiences from your creative journey to share?

A: I’ve been passionate about drawing since childhood, but it wasn’t until I gradually improved my fundamentals and built a more systematic creative workflow that I truly began pursuing illustration as a career.

The most unforgettable experiences are those late nights when I locked myself in my room, repeatedly practicing to break through creative bottlenecks.

As an artist, the most rewarding moment is when a complex pose or lighting concept I’ve been thinking about for a long time finally comes together perfectly after countless revisions.

In addition, occasionally meeting clients who truly understand my design philosophy—where both sides resonate aesthetically and refine the work to its highest level—is also a pure form of fulfillment that keeps me going.

Q: Please share the inspiration and process behind your Summer26 entry.

A: The work Baize is inspired by the “Bai Ze,” a traditional auspicious beast from Chinese mythology. It is said to understand all things, ward off misfortune, and bring good luck.

During the creative process, I wanted to break away from convention and express this ancient symbolism of good fortune through more modern, vibrant lighting. I spent a lot of time refining the composition and color choices, constantly adjusting them to achieve a balance between mystery and a soothing, healing summer atmosphere.

Q: How can fans who like your work find you?

A: I mainly share my work and take commissions on overseas art platforms. You can find me on TikTok, X (Twitter), or VGen by searching for linlindancy.

Q: Any final words for everyone?

A: Thank you so much to everyone who voted for Baize. I’m truly surprised and grateful to have received second place (^▽^)

I hope this mousepad, blessed by Bai Ze, can bring good luck to your desk—ward off misfortune and help you get victory after victory in games!

Lastly, I wish everyone good health. Whether you’re working, drawing, or gaming, please remember to take care of yourself and maintain a healthy posture!
